EU Job Hub Guidance: Associate Director, Publisher Relations in Berlin

This leadership role centres on negotiating with publishers for audio content rights and terms. Negotiators need preparation, patience and a clear view of what the business can offer. Employers look for people with commercial deals experience, often in media or publishing. Bring examples of contracts you negotiated, the value involved and how you built trust. Show that you can manage relationships across several European markets.

Application and interview checklist

  • Prepare one negotiation story, including what you gave up and why.
  • Be ready to explain how you assess the value of a content deal.
  • Think about how cultural differences affect talks in different countries.
  • Ask how the team splits markets and languages.
  • Ask how success in the role is measured after a year.

Before you move or commute

Berlin has a large media and creative scene, so networking events can help. Senior roles often involve travel to book fairs and partner meetings, so ask how much to expect. German and English are both used in business, and other European languages can help in this role. Check commute options and housing before you accept.
