A guide to the AWS Certified AI Practitioner exam: format, topics, cost and who should take it.
EU Job Hub Editorial Team · Updated 1 October 2026 · Based on AWS Certification information and exam guides
The AWS Certified AI Practitioner exam tests your knowledge of artificial intelligence, machine learning and generative AI. It is a foundational exam. It is aimed at people who work with AI solutions on AWS but do not necessarily build them.
The old page used a study-guide title that promised a career path. This guide gives the exam facts first, then a study plan.

AWS names business analysts, IT support staff, marketing professionals, product and project managers and sales professionals as example candidates.
You do not need to write code. You do need to know AI terms and when to use which AWS service.
The content covers basic AI, ML and generative AI ideas and their use cases. It also covers how foundation models are used, responsible AI, and security and compliance for AI systems.
Third-party guides list five domains. Generative AI and foundation model topics carry the largest weights.
There are 65 questions, and some are unscored. You have 90 minutes. Third-party guides list a passing score of 700 on a scale of 100 to 1,000.
You can sit the exam at a testing centre or online.
AWS lists the fee at 100 USD. Local prices vary with taxes and exchange rates.
AWS also says that after you earn one certification, your next exam gets a discount. Check the rule before you book.
Cloud Practitioner gives a broad view of AWS. AI Practitioner goes deeper into AI, ML and generative AI.
If you are new to AWS, you may find it easier to take Cloud Practitioner first.
Start with the free exam preparation plan on Skill Builder. Then take the official practice question set.
Spend extra time on responsible AI. Many learners underestimate it.
Do not memorise service names without knowing what they do. Questions describe a need and ask you to choose.
Do not treat it as a coding exam. It tests understanding.
Pick a real tool you use, such as a chatbot or a summary tool. Write down what data it uses, what could go wrong and who is responsible.
This builds the habit of thinking about risk. Responsible AI questions reward that habit.
Learn the difference between AI, machine learning, deep learning and generative AI. Learn what a foundation model is and what a prompt does.
Learn simple risk words such as bias, hallucination and privacy. Write one sentence for each in your own words.
You book through your AWS Certification account. Choose a testing centre or an online exam.
Read the exam rules in advance. Arrive early or log in early, and keep your identification ready.
Artificial intelligence: Software that performs tasks that normally need human thinking.
Machine learning: A way for software to learn patterns from data.
Generative AI: AI that creates text, images or code.
Foundation model: A large model trained on broad data and reused for many tasks.
Prompt: The instruction you give a generative model.
Hallucination: A confident answer that is wrong.
Check the current price on the official page. Check that the exam code or course name matches the guide you study from.
Ask whether your employer or school will pay. Ask how long the result stays valid.
Write down your goal first. Choose a course or exam only if it moves you towards that goal.
Roles that value it include business analyst, product manager and digital marketing lead in teams that use AI tools.
Add the certificate and the year to your Europass CV. Be clear that it is a foundational credential.
