What the Google Data Analytics Certificate teaches, how long it takes, who it suits and how to use it when you look for analyst jobs in Europe.
EU Job Hub Editorial Team · Updated 1 October 2026 · Based on the official Coursera course page
The Google Data Analytics Certificate is an online programme for people who want to start a career in data analysis. Google built it, and Coursera hosts it. The Coursera page says no degree or experience is required.
This guide explains what the programme contains. It also looks at how the certificate fits a job search in Europe. Everything about the course comes from the official Coursera page and from university partners that resell the programme. Prices are not quoted, because they change. Check the official page before you pay.

The certificate has eight courses. They follow the life of a data project from the first question to the final report. The first course is called Foundations: Data, Data, Everywhere, and Coursera lists it at about 12 hours.
Later courses turn to the practical work. You learn to ask useful questions. You prepare data for analysis. You process and clean it. You then analyse it and share what you found. The last course is a capstone project. It gives you a finished piece of work to show an employer.
The programme includes hands-on labs and practice-based assessments. One partner university describes more than 180 hours of instruction. Other listings give slightly different totals, such as 187 or over 190 hours. The exact figure depends on the version, so treat it as a rough guide.
Most analysts still start in a spreadsheet. You practise cleaning, sorting and summarising data there. You also build simple charts.
SQL is the language used to pull data out of a database. The course teaches you to write basic queries. It also shows how to combine data from several tables and to clean text values.
Tableau is a visualisation tool. The course introduces it as a way to turn results into dashboards and charts that other people can read.
R is a language for statistics and analysis. The certificate uses it for cleaning and calculation tasks. You do not need to know it before you start.
Coursera suggests about 10 hours a week and says most learners finish in around six months. The course is self-paced. You can go faster if you have time, or slower if you work full time.
Some university partners run it as a fixed cohort instead. One of them runs it over 17 or 26 weeks, depending on the intake. That can help if you need a schedule to stay on track.
The certificate suits people who like working with numbers but have no formal analytics background. Typical learners are career changers, recent graduates and office staff who already use spreadsheets every day.
It is less suited to someone who already builds data pipelines or models. That person needs a more advanced course.
A certificate does not replace a degree, and it does not give you the right to work in any country. Employers still look at your projects, your English and your ability to explain results.
One listing on Credly says the certificate carries a recommendation for recognition at levels 5 and 6 of the European Qualifications Framework. It gives a workload of about 187 learning hours. Whether a university or employer accepts that depends on the institution. Ask before you rely on it.
If you need a visa, the certificate alone will not qualify you. Read the national rules for the country where you want to work.
The certificate targets entry-level analyst roles. A partner listing names job titles such as data analyst, business analyst, operations analyst and research analyst. Junior titles are the realistic target after the course.
Build two or three portfolio projects beyond the capstone. Use public data sets from your own country. Write a short summary for each one, in plain language. Hiring managers read those summaries before they read a certificate.
No. The Coursera page says no degree or experience is required.
Not fully. It is included with a Coursera Plus subscription. Coursera offers financial aid to some learners. Check the official page for your options.
Eight, ending with a capstone project.
No. Both are taught from the basics.
It gives you skills and a portfolio. The job still depends on the market, your projects and your language skills.
Browse current vacancies on the EURES portal. Search for terms such as data analyst, junior analyst and business intelligence.
