Training guide
A plain guide to learning SAP Analytics Cloud on the SAP Learning site: the free starter course, the certified data analyst journey and how to practise.
EU Job Hub Editorial Team · Updated 1 October 2026 · Based on the official SAP Learning pages
SAP Analytics Cloud learning starts on the free SAP Learning site. SAP offers a short starter course and a longer journey for data analysts. This page used to describe a “Business Intelligence Training” that I could not match to a single official course.
This guide explains what each official option covers, how long it takes and how to practise. It also shows how to use the skills in a job search in Europe. Course lists change, so check the SAP page before you start.
| Provider | SAP, on the SAP Learning site |
| Starter course | Exploring SAP Analytics Cloud, listed as free and 4 hours or more |
| Longer route | Becoming a Certified Data Analyst in SAP Analytics Cloud, a free learning journey |
| Prerequisites | None listed for either |
| Roles | Business user, data analyst, consultant |
| Cost | Free to learn on SAP Learning. Certification exams are separate. |
The starter course shows you how to navigate SAP Analytics Cloud. You learn to tell its features and components apart and to complete basic tasks.
SAP lists it as free and as 4 hours or more. It suits people who have never opened the tool.
The longer journey goes further. SAP says you learn to create models, design and present stories and analyse data. You also practise planning.
Stories are presentation-style documents with charts and text. Learning to format, filter, calculate and sort data is a core skill.
The journey also leads towards SAP certification. The exam is a separate paid step, so check the SAP certification pages.
SAP offers a separate free journey on planning in SAP Analytics Cloud. It covers manual planning and advanced planning features.
Planning matters for finance teams, who build budgets and forecasts in the tool.
Earlier, SAP ran free openSAP courses on this tool. SAP pages now say they were replaced by the SAP Learning journeys.
If you find an old course page, follow its link to the new journey. Course dates and screens may differ from what you see today.
Watching videos is not enough. Look for a trial or training system, and check what SAP offers for practice at the time you study.
Use a small dataset, such as a sales table. Build a model, create a story with three charts and add a filter.
Write down each step in your own words. You will remember it longer.
Spend week one on the starter course. Spend weeks two and three on the data analyst journey.
Use week four to build one story from your own data and review the planning journey if you work in finance.
Keep your finished story as a portfolio example. Hide any private data first.
Do not skip the basics. Navigation errors waste time in later units.
Do not confuse the free learning with the paid certification exam.
Do not list a skill you only watched. Show something you built.
Do you work with business data? If yes, the tool will feel useful quickly.
Do you need planning or only reports? That choice decides which journey to take.
A model holds your data and its structure. A story shows that data in charts and tables. Learn the difference early, because many errors come from mixing them up.
Check that dates, currencies and categories are clean before you build a chart. Clean data saves hours of rework.
Describe a story in three sentences. State the question, the data used and the finding.
Keep a short list of the features you used, such as filters and calculations. It helps in interviews and shows real use.
SAP skills are in demand at consultancies, manufacturers and public bodies across Europe. Roles include business intelligence analyst, reporting analyst and finance analyst.
Add the badge or course to your Europass CV, with the year. Mention one real report you built.
The course does not give a right to work. Check national rules if you need a visa.
The starter course and the data analyst journey are listed as free on SAP Learning.
SAP lists no prerequisites for these two.
No. Check SAP for current exam fees.
SAP says they were replaced by SAP Learning journeys.
No. Hiring depends on the employer and your skills.
Titles to search for include BI analyst, reporting analyst and finance analyst. Search current vacancies on the EURES portal.
Read the current details on the SAP Learning page for Exploring SAP Analytics Cloud.
