Work permits
How non-EU citizens get permission to work in Poland, what the single permit involves, and how to find genuine employers.
EU Job Hub Editorial Team · Updated 1 October 2026 · Rules checked on official Polish government pages
Poland jobs for foreigners are open to international candidates in one of the larger markets in Central Europe. Your route in depends on your nationality. The Poland work permit rules below apply to non-EU citizens.
EURES states that nationals of EU and EFTA countries may work in Poland without a work permit, on the same terms as Polish nationals. If you stay longer than three months, you register your residence at the provincial office.
Non-EU citizens need permission to live and work. The most common document is the temporary residence and work permit. It is also called the single permit. This guide explains how it works. It is general guidance, so check the official pages before you act.
| Main document | Temporary residence and work permit (single permit) |
| Who decides | The voivode (provincial governor) for your place of residence |
| Maximum length | Up to 3 years |
| Stamp duty | PLN 440 for an employee |
| Decision time | Within 60 days of a complete application |
| Online portal | MOS, used with a login.gov.pl account |
The single permit combines two things. It is a residence permit and a work permit. One decision covers both.
It is meant for third-country nationals who want to live and work in Poland for more than three months. The permit is granted for the period needed, up to three years. It is not renewed automatically. You must apply again before it expires.
The worker and the employer each have a part. The Polish government explains the steps on the MOS portal.
Annex 1 states the job conditions. These include the position, the pay and the working time. The offered pay cannot be lower than the minimum wage. The conditions must match your employment contract.
The official MOS page says you must submit the application during a legal stay in Poland. Submitting from abroad is not permitted. So the route in matters a lot.
A change took effect on 1 June 2025. If you entered Poland on certain visas, your application will not be examined. The list includes tourist visas, visits to family or friends, study visas and medical treatment visas. A long-term visa from another Schengen country can also block the application.
Do not enter as a tourist and plan to switch to a work permit. Ask the Polish consulate which visa fits your case before you travel.
After you submit online, the voivode sends a summons. The appointment is at least 7 days after the summons is delivered. You must attend in person.
At the office you present your original travel document. You also give fingerprints and a signature specimen. Bring proof of the stamp duty payment if it was not attached.
The office may ask for more documents. Foreign-language documents need a sworn translation into Polish. Regulated professions need proof of qualifications. Documents must be current on the date of the decision.
If you apply on time during a legal stay, your stay is treated as legal until the decision becomes final. You receive a certificate confirming the application. It does not allow travel within the Schengen area.
The office should decide within 60 days of a complete application. Some cases are handled first. These include employers of major importance to the national economy and continuing work for the same employer at the same pay. Shortage occupations on a special list also get priority.
The stamp duty is PLN 440 for an employee. If the permit is refused, you can appeal to the Head of the Office for Foreigners within 14 days of receiving the decision.
Refusals often relate to the employer as much as the worker. The official page lists several causes.
The permit lets you work only under its stated conditions. It names the employer and usually the job and the lowest pay. You cannot work for another employer on the basis of it.
If you lose your job, tell the voivode in writing within 15 days. If you change employer, pay or contract type, you must apply for a change of permit. The stamp duty for a change is PLN 220.
Use EURES and the public job portal ePraca. You can also apply directly through company career pages. Polish employers usually expect a short CV, often one or two A4 pages. Many add a data-processing consent line under the CV. A one-page cover letter is common.
Employment agencies in Poland must be listed in the KRAZ register. EURES also says agencies may not charge jobseekers fees for finding work, except certain actual costs for referral abroad. If an agency asks for money for a Polish job, check the register first.
Confirm your nationality group first. If you need the single permit, find an employer willing to complete Annex 1. Ask about the visa route before you travel. Then prepare your CV with the Europass CV builder and apply to employers that sponsor foreign workers.
Rules change, so confirm every figure on the official page before you apply or travel. These are the pages used for this guide.
Find vacancies, compare countries and prepare a stronger European job application at EU Job Hub, browse current jobs, or build a Europass CV.
