Training guide
A plain guide to the Google Analytics certification on Skillshop: what it is, how it works, how long it lasts and how to prepare.
EU Job Hub Editorial Team · Updated 1 October 2026 · Based on Google Skillshop information and public study guides
The Google Analytics certification is a free credential that Google issues through its Skillshop platform. It tests your knowledge of Google Analytics 4. The old page title called it “Advanced”, but I could not confirm an advanced level.
This guide explains what the exam checks and how to prepare. It also covers renewal and how to show the result to employers in Europe. Details change, so read the Skillshop page before you start.
| Provider | Google, through Skillshop |
| Level | Foundation to intermediate |
| Format | Online multiple-choice assessment |
| Pass mark | 80 per cent, according to public study guides |
| Validity | 12 months, then renew |
| Cost | Free to take. Check Skillshop for any change. |
The exam checks how well you understand Google Analytics 4. Topics include setting up a property, collecting data, reading reports and building explorations.
Public study guides say explorations carry real weight. These include free-form, funnel and path reports.
You also need to know how audiences and conversions work, and how to link analytics to advertising.
Google runs one analytics assessment on Skillshop. I found no separate advanced certificate by that name.
If a course offers an “advanced” badge, it is likely from a third party. Ask what it is and who issues it before you pay.
The credential is free. You study and sit the exam on Google Skillshop, with no purchase needed.
Skillshop also offers free learning modules. A short learning path is enough for many people, but practice helps.
Third-party courses exist, but they are optional.
Public guides disagree. Some say 50 questions in 75 minutes. Others say about 70 questions.
Google may change the exam. Treat any number as a guide, and read the Skillshop instructions on the day.
Plan to sit it without interruptions.
Work through the free Skillshop learning path. Then open the demo Analytics account that Google provides and explore the reports.
Set up a small test property on a personal site if you can. Create a conversion and build one exploration.
Review wrong answers carefully. Many mistakes come from mixing old and new terms.
Spend a week on the modules, about five hours in total. Use a second week for hands-on practice.
Then do a short review of measurement concepts, reports and audiences.
Take the exam when you can explain each report in your own words.
The certificate lasts 12 months. Skillshop usually reminds you before it ends.
Set a calendar note for ten months after you pass. Renewal is a repeat of the assessment.
Do not rely on slides alone. Hands-on practice makes the questions easier.
Do not confuse GA4 with the older Universal Analytics. The exam covers GA4.
Do not treat the certificate as proof of experience. Show a real report or project as well.
Employers who hire analysts want to see that you can turn numbers into decisions. A certificate shows you know the tool.
Add a short example. For instance, describe how you found a drop in sign-ups and what you suggested.
Do you have access to a real or demo property? Practice makes the questions easier.
Will you use Analytics often in your job? If not, a shorter course on reports may be enough.
Find a quiet place and a stable connection. Read each question twice, because small words change the meaning.
If you fail, review your weak areas before you try again. Public guides mention a short wait between attempts, so check Skillshop.
Marketing and e-commerce teams across Europe use analytics tools. Roles include digital marketing assistant, web analyst and e-commerce coordinator.
Add the credential and its date to your Europass CV. Include one example of what you measured.
Remember that an employer may care more about your portfolio than the badge.
Yes. Google offers the exam and the study modules free on Skillshop.
I found no separate advanced certificate. Check Skillshop for current options.
12 months, according to public guides.
Public study guides give 80 per cent.
No. It shows basic knowledge. Hiring depends on your skills and the employer.
Titles to search for include web analyst, digital marketing assistant and e-commerce coordinator. Search current vacancies on the EURES portal.
Read the current details on Google Skillshop.
