EU Job Hub Editorial Team · Updated 1 October 2026 · Based on the official Coursera professional certificate page
The Meta Social Media Marketing Certificate is an online programme from Meta, hosted on Coursera. It prepares beginners for a role managing social media for a business.
This guide explains what the programme covers and how long it takes. It also shows how to use it in a job search in Europe. The facts come from the official Coursera page, so check it for the latest course list.

Coursera says you learn to choose the right social media platforms and create social media policies. You also learn to evaluate and interpret the results of your posts and advertising campaigns.
Coursera lists course names such as Introduction to Social Media Marketing, Social Media Management and Fundamentals of Social Media Advertising.
This is the real Meta certificate in this field. Some older guides use other titles for it, so check the official name before you list it on a CV.
Coursera suggests about 5 months at 10 hours a week. Courses run from about 7 to 19 hours, so each one is short.
The total is under 100 hours. That makes it one of the lighter Meta programmes.
Create a simple content plan for a small business, such as a cafe. Choose two platforms and explain why. Draft a week of posts.
Then write a short report on how you would judge the results. Name the numbers you would watch.
Plan ten hours a week. Use six for lessons, three for planning content and one for review.
Keep a folder of your drafts. It becomes the start of your portfolio.
Do not copy another brand’s posts. Show your own ideas.
Do not post for a real client without permission.
Do not promise results. Say what you will test instead.
Social media job ads often mention content planning, community management and reporting. Many also ask for writing skill and basic design tools.
Keep examples of your writing and a short sample report ready to share.
Do you enjoy writing and thinking about audiences? Social media work needs both.
Do you want an analytics role? The marketing analytics certificate may fit better.
The programme suits beginners, small business owners and career changers who want a first marketing role.
It may be too basic for someone who already runs paid campaigns.
Social media roles appear in agencies, shops and tourism firms across Europe. Titles include social media assistant, community manager and content coordinator.
Language skills help. Many roles ask for a second European language alongside English.
The certificate does not give a right to work. Check national visa rules if needed.
Collect a small set of examples: a content calendar, five sample posts and a short report plan. Present them in one tidy document or page.
Write a brief note on why you chose each platform for the sample business. Clear reasons show strategy, not only creativity.
Check spelling and tone carefully. Social media work is public, so mistakes are noticed.
Keep practising on a small page or account of your own. Post regularly for a month and record what you learn.
Start applying before you finish. Many interviews ask you to suggest ideas for the company’s own accounts, so prepare a few.
Follow social media news from trusted sources. Platform rules and features change often.
The current Coursera page lists six.
