Training guide
A plain guide to the Meta React Native Specialization: eight courses, the pace Coursera suggests, the skills you practise and how to show them to employers.
EU Job Hub Editorial Team · Updated 1 October 2026 · Based on the official Coursera specialization page
The Meta React Native Specialization is an online programme for people who want to build mobile apps. Meta created it and Coursera hosts it. It teaches you to make apps that run on both iOS and Android from one code base.
This guide explains how the programme is organised and what the time commitment looks like. It also covers who should take it and how to use it in a job search in Europe. The facts come from the official Coursera page, so check that page for the latest course list.

Coursera describes the goal as becoming a cross-platform mobile app developer. You learn programming fundamentals first. You then learn how to build a user interface and the best practices for designing it.
The wider aim is to create apps that work across different platforms and devices. One code base can serve both iOS and Android, which saves time for small teams.
The eight courses differ a lot in size. Coursera lists the first at about 12 hours. The second is the largest, at roughly 46 to 48 hours. The remaining courses run from about 14 to 38 hours each.
Listings change slightly over time. Some show 15 hours for the third course and others show 16. Treat the figures as a guide.
Add them up and the total is well over 150 hours. At 6 hours a week, that is why Coursera suggests about eight months.
Eight months is a long commitment. A steady weekly routine works better than occasional long sessions. Set two or three fixed study slots and protect them.
If you have more time, you can finish sooner. Coursera lets you learn at your own pace. If you have less time, expect it to take longer and plan breaks around busy weeks.
Do the large second course early. It carries a lot of the core material, and the later courses build on it.
The programme suits beginners who want to move into mobile development. It also suits web developers who want to add mobile apps to their skills. You do not need earlier experience, but you should enjoy learning by building.
It may be too long if you only want a short taster. A single introductory course can serve that need better.
Employers want to see working apps. Keep every project in a public code repository. Add a short readme to each one that explains what the app does and how to run it.
Record a short screen video of each app in use. A recruiter can then judge your work in two minutes. Keep the interface simple and clean, since the courses stress good interface design.
Split the eight months into three stages. Spend the first two months on programming basics and the large second course. Spend the middle months on building interfaces and apps. Keep the last stage for finishing projects and tidying your portfolio.
Set a weekly goal that you can measure. For example, finish one lesson set and commit working code each week. Small, regular commits show your progress, and a recruiter can read them.
Join a study group or a developer community. Explaining a problem to someone else is a fast way to find gaps in what you know. Ask for feedback on your interface choices, not only your code.
Mobile developer roles appear in many European cities, often in agencies and product companies. Typical job titles include React Native developer, mobile developer and front-end developer.
Read job ads closely. Many ask for experience with testing, version control and working in a team. Add those skills to your portfolio alongside the course projects.
The certificate shows study, not employment rights. If you need a visa, check the national rules for the country you are targeting.
