Training guide
A plain guide to learning SEO from Google Search Central, and why there is no official Google SEO certificate to earn.
EU Job Hub Editorial Team · Updated 1 October 2026 · Based on Google Search Central resources and public SEO course reviews
Many people search for a Google SEO certificate. This Google Search Central SEO guide explains what Google actually offers. It offers free documentation and guides, but I found no official SEO certificate.
The old page title said “Free Certification Course”, which could mislead readers. This guide corrects that. It shows how to learn SEO from Google material and where certificates come from.
| Provider | Google Search Central |
| Level | Beginner to intermediate |
| Format | Free online guides and documentation |
| Certificate | None found from Google for SEO |
| Related tool | Google Search Console |
| Cost | Free to read |
Google Search Central publishes documentation for site owners and developers. It includes the SEO Starter Guide, which covers titles, descriptions, links and site structure.
There are also guides on how search works and how to fix common problems. They are free to read and have no exam.
Because the material changes, check the date on each page.
Several public reviews state that Google does not run an official SEO certification. I could not find one on Google pages either.
Google does offer career certificates in other fields, such as digital marketing and e-commerce. These are not SEO exams.
If a site claims a “Google SEO certificate”, read the small print. It may be from a training company.
Search Console is a free tool from Google. It shows which queries bring visitors and which pages Google has indexed.
It also reports problems, such as pages that cannot be crawled. Many site owners check it weekly.
Learning to read these reports is a practical skill for SEO jobs.
Spend week one on the SEO Starter Guide. Take notes on each section in your own words.
In week two, verify a small website in Search Console. Look at the performance report and note three queries.
In week three, improve one page. Change its title and description, then watch the results for a month.
Companies such as HubSpot and some Coursera partners offer SEO courses with certificates. Check the course page for the issuer and the price.
A certificate shows that you finished a course. Employers often prefer real examples, such as a site you improved.
Do not claim a Google SEO certificate on your CV unless a Google page confirms it.
Do not chase quick tricks. Search guidelines reward useful, original pages.
Do not skip measurement. Without data you cannot tell what worked.
Google finds pages by following links, which is called crawling. It stores what it finds in an index. When someone searches, it picks pages from the index that match the query.
Good SEO helps Google understand your page and helps people choose it. It does not mean tricking the system.
A page title should say what the page is about in plain words. A description should give a short, honest summary.
Both appear in search results, so write them for readers first. Avoid repeating the same title across many pages.
The Starter Guide explains these points with examples.
Do you want to work on your own site or for an employer? Your own site gives you free practice.
Do you need a certificate? If yes, choose a named third-party course and check its issuer first.
Search guidance changes over time. Bookmark the Search Central blog and re-read the Starter Guide once a year.
Note the date of every tip you save. An old tip may no longer apply, and Google may have replaced it with a newer rule.
SEO roles appear in agencies, online shops and publishers across Europe. Titles include SEO assistant, content specialist and digital marketing executive.
Add a short case study to your Europass CV. Say what you changed and what happened.
Language skills matter. Many roles need a second European language.
I found none. Google offers free guides and tools.
Yes. It is on Google Search Central.
A free Google tool that reports how your site performs in Search.
They can help you learn. Check the issuer, and add practical work.
No. Employers look at your skills and examples.
Titles to search for include SEO assistant, content specialist and digital marketing executive. Search current vacancies on the EURES portal.
Read the current details on the Google SEO Starter Guide.
This guide is independent and is not affiliated with the course provider. Prices, course lists and exam rules change, so check the official page before you enrol. A certificate does not give you the right to work in any country.
