Training guide
A clear look at the Google Business Intelligence Certificate: the courses, the tools, the time it takes and how it can help you apply for reporting and BI roles in Europe.
EU Job Hub Editorial Team · Updated 1 October 2026 · Based on the official Coursera course page
The Google Business Intelligence Certificate is a short online programme. It focuses on data modelling, data visualisation, and dashboards and reporting. Google built it, and Coursera hosts it.
Business intelligence, or BI, means turning company data into reports that managers can use. This guide explains what you study and how long it takes. It also shows how to present the certificate to employers in Europe. The facts come from the Coursera page and from partner listings. Check the official page for any prerequisites, as recommended experience can change.

Coursera lists the first three courses at 15, 17 and 18 hours. The current page shows a fourth course of about six hours, while older partner listings describe three courses. Use the official page for the current count.
The first course introduces business intelligence and the tools and techniques analysts use. A third-party outline says it covers context and purposeful insights, and ends with a project. The second course deals with data models and pipelines. It includes dynamic database design and how to optimise ETL processes. ETL stands for extract, transform and load.
The third course focuses on visualisation. You learn to build and present visual results, and to automate and monitor reports.
BigQuery is Google’s cloud data warehouse. The course uses it for practical work, including partitioning data and creating an index.
SQL is the language used to query data. You write queries to pull the data you need.
Tableau turns data into dashboards. You use it to build visuals for the final project.
A partner listing says you complete a portfolio project you can share with employers. Coursera also describes a case study. The third course project builds on work from the first two. That gives you one connected example instead of several small ones.
Coursera says you can finish in about two months at 10 hours a week. That is shorter than most Google certificates. Google’s own page adds that many learners take three to six months, which is realistic if you work full time.
Companies collect large amounts of data from sales, customers and operations. Raw data rarely helps a manager make a decision. A BI analyst turns it into a chart or a dashboard that shows what is happening and what to do next.
That work needs three things. The data must be organised well, which is the job of data models and pipelines. It must be queried accurately, which needs SQL. It must be shown clearly, which needs a tool like Tableau. The certificate gives one course to each of these steps, which is why it is short and focused.
The Google page also says the final course shows you how to present insights and put your certificate to work in a job search.
The certificate is aimed at entry-level BI work. It suits analysts who already use spreadsheets and want to move into dashboards and data models. It may feel heavy for someone who has never written a query.
If you are brand new to data, consider starting with the Google Data Analytics Certificate on this site. Check the recommended experience on the official page.
BI roles in Europe appear in finance, retail, logistics and public bodies. Employers want people who can explain a number to a manager. Your dashboard and its written summary show that skill.
Google says its curriculum was designed with input from employers and industry groups, including Tableau, Accenture and Deloitte. That does not guarantee hiring. It does show the course follows real tools.
The certificate does not give work authorisation. Check the visa rules for the country where you want to work.
Titles to search for include BI analyst, reporting analyst and BI developer.
