Training guide
A guide to the beginner machine learning course in AWS Educate: what you learn and where to go next.
EU Job Hub Editorial Team · Updated 1 October 2026 · Based on AWS Training and Certification blog posts and AWS Educate pages
AWS Machine Learning Foundations is an introductory course on machine learning. The course sits in AWS Educate, the free learning program from Amazon Web Services.
It does not teach you to code models. It teaches you to talk about machine learning and to apply the ML pipeline to a business problem.
I could not confirm the exact course length from a first-hand AWS page, so this guide does not quote hours.
| Provider | Amazon Web Services |

| Cost | Free, as part of AWS Educate |
| Level | Beginner |
| Focus | AI, ML and deep learning basics and the ML pipeline |

AWS lists several goals for the course. You describe artificial intelligence, machine learning and deep learning.
You list important machine learning technologies. You describe the stages of the machine learning pipeline.
You also identify tools and services for machine learning.
A machine learning pipeline is a series of steps. You define the problem, collect and prepare data, train a model, test it and then use it.
The course teaches you to apply this to a business problem. That skill helps even if you never write code.
It suits students, career changers and non-technical staff who want to understand ML. It also suits managers who work with data teams.
If you already build models, this course is too basic for you.
AWS Educate groups its courses by topic. Machine learning is one of the topics, next to cloud basics and security.
You earn a badge for finishing a course.
AWS Academy offers a course with a similar name. It is a curriculum for schools and colleges. Students usually reach it through their institution.
If your school is a member, ask your teacher about it.
After this course, you can look at the AWS Certified AI Practitioner exam. It is a foundational exam on AI and generative AI.
If you want to build models, learn Python and basic statistics first.
Take notes on each pipeline stage and give one example for each. Use a simple business case, such as predicting late deliveries.
Say the steps aloud without notes. That shows what you do not yet know.
Do not expect to become a data scientist after one course.
Do not skip the data preparation stage. Real projects spend most of their time there.
Do not list it as a certification.
Ask what problem it solves and who benefits. Ask what data it needs and where that data comes from.
Ask how you would test it and what happens when it is wrong. These questions show real understanding.
Models learn from data. If the data is incomplete or biased, the results will be too.
Spend time on this stage in your notes. It is where many projects fail.
AWS says Amazon’s Machine Learning University offers free courses that Amazon uses to train its own developers.
Combine them with basic Python practice if you want to work with data yourself.
Training data: The examples a model learns from.
Model: The result of training, used to make predictions.
Feature: An input detail that a model uses, such as age or price.
Overfitting: When a model learns the training data too well and fails on new data.
Inference: Using a trained model to make a prediction.
Deep learning: Machine learning that uses many layers of artificial neurons.
Check the current price on the official page. Check that the exam code or course name matches the guide you study from.
Ask whether your employer or school will pay. Ask how long the result stays valid.
Write down your goal first. Choose a course or exam only if it moves you towards that goal.
Add the course and the year to your Europass CV as training.
Roles that value ML literacy include business analyst, product assistant and data support.
It is part of AWS Educate, which AWS describes as free.
No. It teaches concepts and the ML pipeline.
You earn a badge, not a certification.
It is a curriculum for schools and colleges.
Job titles to search for include business analyst, data support assistant and product assistant. Search current vacancies on the EURES portal.
Read the current details on the AWS Educate page.
This guide is independent and is not affiliated with Amazon Web Services. Prices, course lists and exam rules change, so check the official AWS page before you pay or enrol. A certificate does not give you the right to work in any country.
