Training guide
A plain guide to the IBM Front-End Developer Certificate: 11 courses, the capstone project, the time it takes and how to show your work.
EU Job Hub Editorial Team · Updated 1 October 2026 · Based on the official Coursera professional certificate page
The IBM Front-End Developer Certificate is an online programme for people who want to build websites and web app interfaces. IBM created it and Coursera hosts it. It is aimed at beginners.
This guide explains what the programme covers and how long it takes. It also shows how to use it in a job search in Europe. The facts come from the Coursera page. Check that page for the latest course list.

Coursera says you gain job-ready front-end skills in about four months. You learn to plan, build, deploy and test web designs and application interfaces.
The page also says you build a portfolio. It includes a capstone project in which you design, build and deploy a dynamic web application.
The listing shows courses from about 9 to 19 hours each. Many sit between 11 and 16 hours. That keeps each step short, which suits learners with limited time.
Together they add up to well over 100 hours. At 10 hours a week, four months is realistic if you keep a routine.
The capstone is the part employers will care about most. You design a web application, build it and put it online.
Choose a topic you care about. A small booking tool or a simple dashboard shows more than a copy of a tutorial. Write a short readme that explains the problem it solves.
Keep every project in a public repository. Add a live link where you can. A recruiter should open your page and see a working result in seconds.
Check your pages on a phone as well as a computer. Many visitors use a small screen.
Type every code sample yourself. Change one thing at a time and see what happens. This builds understanding faster than reading.
Review each course with a small task from memory. For example, rebuild a simple page without looking at your notes.
Do not skip testing. Broken pages weaken an otherwise good portfolio.
Do not use too many tools at once. Learn the basics well first.
Do not call yourself a senior developer after the course. Describe yourself as a junior developer.
The programme suits beginners and career changers who want a web career. It also suits designers who want to understand code.
If you already build websites, a more advanced course may be a better fit.
Front-end roles appear in agencies, shops and software firms across Europe. Titles include junior front-end developer, web developer and UI developer.
Many employers ask for portfolio links and teamwork skills. Add your projects to your Europass CV.
The certificate does not give a right to work. Check national visa rules if needed.
Give ten hours a week. Use six for lessons and coding, three for practice projects and one for review.
Build something visible every week, even a small page. Regular practice beats long, rare sessions.
Test your work in at least two browsers. Real sites must work for every visitor.
Do you like making things people can see and click? Front-end work is visual and detailed.
Do you already build pages? If so, check that the courses add something new.
Front-end job ads often mention HTML, CSS and JavaScript, plus a framework. Many also ask for version control and basic accessibility knowledge.
The programme covers the core of these. Build on it by making your projects easy to use with a keyboard and readable on small screens.
Add a short note about each project’s purpose. Clear writing helps a recruiter understand your work quickly.
